Union representing Legal Aid BC staff lawyers serves strike notice

Legal Aid BC (Legal Services Society) has received 72-hour strike notice from the Professional Employees Association (PEA), the association representing the organization’s 28 staff lawyers.

The PEA has advised that the strike will begin with a one-day walkout at the Vancouver Regional Centre starting at 7 am on Friday, November 1. The PEA has also advised that its members will not picket any other locations and all other locations will remain open.

Details of what further actions, if any, the PEA intends to take after November 1 have not been provided.

Legal Aid BC will do its best to ensure that critical services remain available to assist clients and lawyers. Further information about those services read Services for Clients and Lawyers During PEA Strike.

Legal Aid BC remains committed to reaching an agreement with the PEA through the collective bargaining process and continues to be available to resume negotiations.
